Worship: It’s not just a song, it’s your practice exam for heaven!

Have you ever heard that your life of faith is an exam? Well, worship is actually your practice exam for heaven. What we do and the way we worship on earth will reflect the way we’ll worship in heaven too.

But worship isn’t just a dress rehearsal; it’s also a powerful weapon. Here are 3 essential, easy-to-apply principles for turning worship into a living force in your life:

1. Pass the praise on right away: Avoid the pride trap

Had a win? Received a well-deserved compliment? Congratulations! Now take that praise and pass it on.

  • Nebuchadnezzar’s trap: King Nebuchadnezzar, though appointed by God, credited all his power and wealth to himself. It wasn’t long before he ended up eating grass.
  • The Jesus model: Jesus was praised, but He constantly passed the praise and worship on to the Father. He said that He can do nothing of Himself, but only what He sees the Father doing.
  • Your move: Don’t keep the praise for yourself. Pass it on, bring it to the Altar. Do this because God is Lord, that is, your Owner.

2. Sing your NEW song: Turn your experience into a testimony

Again and again the Bible urges us: “Sing to Yahweh a new song.” What does that mean?

  • A new song isn’t a repeat: Don’t copy someone else’s worship. Sing about what you are experiencing.
  • The purpose of problems: God doesn’t give you the problems, but He allows them so that you have material for worship and can come out singing.
  • Be like Daniel and David: Don’t just ask to escape the problem. Ask to come out victorious, singing. Daniel came out of the lions’ den with a testimony: his God had tamed the lions.

3. Connect worship with knowledge

Your worship can’t go beyond the level of your knowledge of God.

  • The spiritual ceiling: Worship only reaches as high as your level of knowledge.
  • Grow the relationship: If you see someone whose worship runs deep, you can be sure that person has a real relationship and real experience with God.
  • Your lifestyle: Make your lifestyle a new song. Be thankful. When you understand that He holds your bones together and that you’re here only because He allows it, you begin to live a life of worship.

Worship is something reserved for the Lord alone. Don’t let anything else sit on the throne of your heart!
