Are you addicted? The secret you didn’t know about your energy and attention.

Have you ever stopped to think about where your energy, time, and money actually go? Whether it’s the next level in a game, the series you binge episode after episode, or the chase for success at work, we all have something that consumes us.

In a recent message, the speaker, Beni, touched a nerve:

every person is, in essence, addicted to something. And that addiction is, in fact, our form of worship.

Recognize your daily “worship”

The word “worship” may sound religious, but the principle is simple: you worship whatever you give your most precious resources to.

  • Addiction to consumption: The marketing world is constantly studying subtle ways to make you believe you need something new. And so, without realizing it, we end up worshiping buying and spending.
  • Addiction to success: When you get the promotion, buy the car, or finish a project you’re proud of, you’re looking for some form of glory and appreciation. This chase for validation becomes a form of worship as well – the worship of self.

The problem is that these kinds of “worship” always leave you empty. There is an alternative – an addiction that, instead of consuming you, fills your life with meaning.

  • The heavenly tutorial: An upgrade for your life
The sermon offers a “heavenly tutorial” for redirecting your energy, based on a simple principle that God gave the apostle John:
“Come up here!” This isn’t just a piece of advice but an invitation to completely change the level you live at.
Here are a few practical steps drawn from this tutorial:
    1. COME UP – Change your perspective.

      • The first step is to rise above the noise and distractions of the world.

      • Many of the solutions and doors God has opened can’t be seen from the level of your problems; you have to rise spiritually to notice them.

      • This means intentionally setting your mind on the things that are above, the spiritual things, not on the things that are on the earth.

GIVE THE GLORY WHERE IT BELONGS – Redirect your success.

      • It’s normal to enjoy your achievements, but the secret of fulfillment lies in gratitude.

      • Take every success, every word of praise, everything that could bring glory to you and, instead of feeding your ego, lay it at the foot of God’s Throne.

      • Turn every achievement into a “thank you.” This is a powerful, active form of worship that frees you from the pressure of constantly performing for your own fame.

EMBRACE THE NEW – Move from routine to passion.

      • One trap, especially for those who are familiar with the faith, is living in the past. We end up offering God “old praise, with mold on it… rusty praise.”

      • A living relationship with God isn’t based on what He did a year ago but on what He is doing
        now.

      • Pay attention to His fresh moves in your life and bring Him a new testimony, worship that comes from a present, dynamic relationship.

      The choice is yours

You can’t avoid being addicted to something. But you can choose what you’re addicted to. You can keep worshiping things that drain you of energy, or you can choose to invest your passion in your relationship with God – an “addiction” that brings you life, strength, and a purpose that lasts.
So, who will you give your energy to today?
